You have to file it anyway — you may as well get something out of it
Filing a tax return is compulsory. What differs from one person to the next is what they get out of it. Three items most people forget to declare.
Filing a tax return is not a choice: everyone has to. So the real question is not "do I have to file it?", but "am I claiming everything I am entitled to?"
And the answer, very often, is no. The tax office guesses nothing: what you leave out, you pay for.
A simple rule of thumb: for 100 francs of recognised expense, you generally pay 20 to 30 francs less tax, depending on your income and your municipality.
1. Pillar 3a
It is the most effective deduction there is: what you pay in comes off your taxable income. Paying in the maximum allowed often saves more than a thousand francs of tax a year.
2. Commuting to work
If you live far from your workplace, your journeys count — and so do meals taken away from home. It is the item most often forgotten, and one of the largest.
3. Childcare
Day nursery, childminder, after-school care: these costs are deductible. But they have to be declared, with the receipts.
And if you made a second-pillar buy-in
It is the heaviest lever of all: a second-pillar buy-in is fully deductible in the year it is made. Whatever you do, don't let it slip.
Our job is to let nothing slip
We go through your file item by item and look for every deduction you are entitled to.
